Stoney Creek Mason is a young Nigerian Dwarf buck we are very excited to have within the AeonHeart breeding program. Bred by Stoney Creek, Mason brings together a particularly strong combination of Old Mountain Farm, Dill’s, First Fleet, Painted Pepper and Stoney Creek genetics, giving him a pedigree rich in both imported American dairy lines and established Australian Nigerian Dwarf breeding.
As a buck, Mason’s value to our program lies heavily in the strength of the females and proven dairy families behind him. His pedigree brings together several lines known for dairy character, mammary quality, structural correctness and production, making him an exciting prospect for the next generation of AeonHeart does.
Sire – Kamalaya Farm Sandman
Mason’s sire, Kamalaya Farm Sandman, is heavily bred on Old Mountain Farm genetics.
Sandman is by Old Mountain Farm Ash, with Old Mountain Farm Cer and Old Mountain Farm Pe immediately behind him. His dam is Old Mountain Farm Mou, a daughter of Old Mountain Farm Oli and Painted Pepper PS Osh.
This gives Mason an unusually concentrated Old Mountain Farm influence through his paternal pedigree.
Old Mountain Farm is one of the better-known names within American Nigerian Dwarf breeding, with its genetics appearing throughout successful dairy and show herds internationally. The line has been used extensively for animals combining dairy character, structural correctness and strong maternal families.
For us, this concentration makes Mason particularly interesting as a sire. Rather than simply carrying an isolated Old Mountain Farm ancestor several generations back, the family is strongly represented throughout his sire’s pedigree.
Dam – Stoney Creek Mila
Mason is out of Stoney Creek Mila, whose pedigree brings together two very different but complementary branches.
Mila is by Stoney Creek Lucas, a son of the imported American buck Dill’s Big & Rich and First Fleet Lulu.
Her dam is First Fleet Mira, a daughter of First Fleet Pan and First Fleet Mary.
This gives Mason a strong maternal foundation combining some highly regarded American Dill’s dairy genetics with the established First Fleet family that played an important role in the development of Nigerian Dwarfs in Australia.
The Dill’s Big & Rich Influence
One of Mason’s strongest pedigree features is his maternal great-grandsire, SG Dill’s RD Big & Rich.
Big & Rich was recognised as an ADGA Elite Buck and ranked within the top percentage of Nigerian Dwarf bucks for genetic evaluations. His influence is particularly valuable because his pedigree was backed by females with strong production, show and mammary records.
Big & Rich subsequently became an important foundation sire within Australian Nigerian Dwarf breeding.
This is exactly the type of ancestry we like to see behind a herd sire. A buck cannot demonstrate an udder himself, so the quality and consistency of the female families surrounding him become especially important when assessing his potential contribution to future daughters.
First Fleet Pan × Mary
Mason also carries another pedigree combination that we particularly value through his maternal grandmother, First Fleet Mira.
Mira is a direct daughter of First Fleet Pan × First Fleet Mary.
Pan and Mary form an important part of the early First Fleet Nigerian Dwarf foundation in Australia, and their influence can be found behind a number of successful Australian animals.
The family has demonstrated both dairy and show ability. Descendants from the Pan and Mary breeding include Australian Champions, while the broader First Fleet family has produced animals successful for udder quality and dairy performance.
This gives Mason a valuable maternal line behind his sire potential rather than relying solely on prominent buck names.
Dairy Heritage Behind Mason
Mason’s pedigree is particularly appealing to us because there is meaningful dairy heritage on both sides.
Through Dill’s Big & Rich, he traces into American families with documented genetic merit for milk components and successful mammary systems. Big & Rich appeared on the ADGA Elite Buck list, and his wider family includes does recognised for production, linear appraisal, Best Udder and championship awards.
Through First Fleet, Mason carries Australian-established genetics descending from imported Nigerian Dwarf breeding. First Fleet animals have demonstrated their dairy capability in Australia, including individuals recognised for high butterfat and others winning udder awards against standard dairy breeds.
His paternal Old Mountain Farm concentration adds another established American family to that foundation.
